Beginner Scratch

The perfect introduction to computer science!

Scratch is a block-based language (no typing) primarily for beginners.

This workshop introduces students to the world of coding by keeping things interactive, visual, and fun while providing a few small challenges!

Target age range: 6+

Prerequisites: None

Continuation: Advanced Scratch or Music x Scratch

Concepts Covered:

o   Game design & animations

o   Making and drawing sprites

o   Sprite actions (movement, sound, appearances, cloning)

o   Interactions between sprites

o   Working with backgrounds, visuals, etc.

o   Loops

o   Conditional statements (if-statements)

o   Variables

o   Timers

o   Math and logic operators (<, >, ==, and, or)

o Parts of the computer

Projects You’ll Make:

o   An interactive cat

o   An ocean simulator with sea creatures

o   Pong game

o   Advertisement, short video, and/or animations

o   Hoppy Cat game

o   A Pokémon game
