Opening Doors With Education. . .

Since our founding in 2017, we have been providing accessible and inclusive learning opportunities to all youth, with a special focus on amplifying voices, building self-confidence, and sparking passion in underserved youth.

Our Mission

Female-founded and led, our non-profit organization, The C.O.D.E. Initiative was founded to Create Opportunities and Define Education. Our mission is to provide quality educational opportunities for all youth, especially those from underrepresented communities such as neurodivergent youth, and youth from Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) communities.

By introducing youth to Coding, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math from a young age, we seek to spark a passion for a highly sought-after skill in today’s job market. By teaching our students valuable skills such as problem-solving, creativity, and logical thinking, we hope to give them tools that will benefit them in all aspects of life. Coding is becoming the language of the modern world, and we are here to teach it in a fun and accessible way.

Our Story

During my second year of university, I, a Computer Science major at the time, was told by another student in one of our classes that I “didn’t look like someone who would be in this field”. It was a 10-second interaction, but it led to a conversation between myself and my two co-founders about the lack of opportunities available for students who don’t fit the stiff mold designed by the traditional education system.

“With a shared vision of encouraging inclusivity in learning, we created The C.O.D.E. Initiative Foundation, an organization with the mission to Create Opportunities and Define Education.”

Despite the challenges faced, we successfully hosted our first workshop for 10 students on the autism spectrum. Four years later, we have hosted over 40 in-person workshops and thousands of online coding sessions to over 1500 students.

We’ve come a long way since, and we owe it all to the love and support of the communities we serve, our mentors, and of course the dedicated team at CODE. Now, we hope to be that pillar of support for our students. We hope to instill a love for learning and empower our students by believing in their potential. There is a long way to go, and our journey has just begun, but we are incredibly excited and humbled to be learning and growing together.
